Without any comment, apology, or explanation, I am back, and I wish I could say badder than ever, but I'm not bad in any sense, least of all in the colloquial sense - where the speaker who thus declares himself bad is really seeking to convey his all-round coolness in a streetwise way that I can barely even think about without snorting in disgust.
Straight off the bat (is that even a proper expression?) the only significant news I can think of is that I got a new camera phone a few months ago.
With it I have started to indulge myself in a creepy new hobby: taking surreptitious photos of random scenes and persons whom I find of interest. There's nothing particularly creepy about the stray snaps of snowy churchyards and the like that I've accumulated so far. No, what is creepy is that I've snatched the odd one or two photos of people. Young women mostly. I'm saying nothing.
The young lady who is rather blurrily depicted above captured my interest because of her strong resemblance to a young Virginia Woolf. If anything the photograph accentuates what was only a vague likeness.
